After we say goodnight to the Summer, we shortly pick back up with the Extended Season weekends. We host various weekend camps such as Elementary School Weekend Camp, Middle School Weekend Camp, Camp Out at Kanata Family and five weekends of Y Guides Fall Outings.
We also collaborate with other camps in the surrounding community by providing a space for them to run their programs. Two of those programs are Jaycee Burn Center’s Camp Celebrate and Comfort Zone Camp.
Camp Celebrate is a weekend camp run by the Jaycee Burn Center that brings together children ages 7-15 who have survived burn injuries. Comfort Zone Camp is a bereavement camp for children who have experienced the death of a loved one.
During their stay at Kanata, campers get the chance to participate in all the fun activities Camp has to offer like Arts & Crafts, Archery, Canoeing, Climbing Wall, Riflery and more! Both programs create a space for campers to build bonds and feel supported while exploring what Kanata has to offer.
“Having camp to look forward to, to escape my everyday life, as well as, attending the short weekend camps run by Comfort Zone, allowed me to process and deal with the grief of the death of my father,” says Camp Kanata staff member, Mason Binker.
Scholarships to attend Comfort Zone Camp are awarded to campers through Camp Kanata’s Annual Campaign. Thanks to donations to the Annual Campaign, Mason was able to attend Comfort Zone Camp completely free of charge.
