Current Profession and Title/Years in the Role:
Marketing Manager for Wake Forest University Pre-College Programs, 2 years
Can you provide a brief overview of your current job responsibilities?
My current role reminds me a lot of my role as communications coordinator for Kanata. I prepare and implement marketing strategies for three programs that serve high school students preparing for college. During the summer, I take photos of students on campus participating in summer institutes and create content for social media.
What is your best career advice for members of our Camp community?
If you can turn a personal hobby into experience for your professional life that will set you up for success in many ways! I started bringing my camera to camp during my trainee years and I took tons of photos of our experience that I later used as a starting point in my portfolio to get other internships and leadership positions. If you enjoy doing something like taking pictures, find an outlet or organization that you can do that for to gain experience.
What do you believe have been some of your greatest personal and professional accomplishments? Is there a goal toward which you are currently working?
I have enjoyed capturing photos for many organizations and people over the years. I think having a photographic representation of moments of your life is so precious and I think it's great that I've been able to provide that for so many people. I would love to be a photojournalist one day!
What is a lesson or skill that you have taken from Camp and used in your personal or professional life?
I've always loved our motto Be Well and Do Good. I've applied this to my adult life by instilling wellness and generosity wherever I can. Because of Camp, I really love the outdoors too, I am outside as often as I can be.
How do the values or skills you learned at Camp show up in your everyday work and/or personal life?
Camp taught me how to interact and work with lots of different kinds of people. Cabin life taught me how to be a good roommate, working on staff taught me how to be a team player.
Is there a person or a situation that had a huge influence on you while you were at Camp? How and why did they/it impact you?
My time as a trainee and staff member was so impactful. My trainee coordinators and professional staff team created an environment that encouraged hard work and creative thinking. It pushed us to lift others up and play to each others strengths.
What advice would you give your younger self?
You don't have to be the best at something to enjoy it.
What are three words that describe you best?
Positive, creative, and a planner
What is your favorite Camp memory?
I have so many amazing camp memories! Being co-counselors with Grace and Abigail was so special, we wore matching converse sneakers all summer and had the silliest time. It was even more special watching so many of our campers later become staff members because we had met as campers too!
