Current Profession and Title/Years in role:
Client Management Associate working in the financial services industry.
Can you provide a brief overview of your job responsibilities?
I work for a company that does financial advising for individuals and families. I am assigned to a financial advisor, and I work with a few other Client Service representatives to support the advisor in whatever needs our clients have. I help open new accounts, gather reports and other necessary documents, and interact with clients on a daily basis with any questions that they have.
Do you have any career advice for members of our Camp community?
The core values and character traits that are important at Camp are just as important in the business world – and staying true to them will take you far! Honesty, respect, teamwork, as well as having fun and staying positive are all crucial.
What do you believe have been some of your greatest personal and professional accomplishments? Is there a goal toward which you are currently working?
Professionally, I am proud to work for a company that values service and integrity, and challenges me to embody those values every day. I am striving to learn as much as I can from my colleagues and mentors, and my goal is to advise some of my own clients one day!
Personally, running a marathon, raising a puppy, and marrying my wife Sallie (who I met at camp!) are all accomplishments that I am proud of.
How do the values or skills you learned at Camp show up in your everyday work and/or personal life?
I would not be the person I am today, both personally and professionally, without Camp Kanata! At Camp, I learned how to work on a team, how to bring energy and enthusiasm to everything I do, the meaning of respect, and how to take initiative. I also learned how to encourage others, be vulnerable, and how to make authentic and lasting friendships.
Is there a person or a situation that had a huge influence on you while you were at Camp? How and why did they/it impact you?
Many of the values and skills I listed above I learned through participating in the Trainee program at Camp. Whether it was serving as a CILT or being a member of a cabin as a CIT, I learned valuable lessons about responsibility and teamwork during a pivotal time in my life.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Never stop learning and growing! Each new experience is the chance to learn something new that may help you down the road.
Favorite Camp meal: Circular pizza, with ranch!
Favorite dining hall or flagpole song: I always loved doing cheers on Sunday and Friday nights, especially singing Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys
All-time favorite skit memory: Winning the skit competition at the closing campfire and celebrating with the Rangers!
Favorite evening program at Camp: Capture the Flag
Devotion you best remember from Camp: As a camper, writing my name on a rock and throwing it in the water at Lower Lake symbolizing that I will always have a home at Camp Kanata.
